Question
Are online pokies actually rigged or am i just unlucky
ok so ive been playing pokies online for maybe 6 months now and i swear the moment i deposit my own money the games go cold instantly. like in demo mode i hit bonuses all the time but real money? nothing. is this just in my head or are these things actually rigged against you. genuinely starting to think the whole thing is a scam

had the exact same paranoia mate. the thing is reputable pokies arent rigged in the way you think, they use RNG and the house edge is just baked in over time so you WILL lose more than you win long term, thats just maths. but the demo vs real money thing is a known psychological trap, demo mode you dont care so you play different and remember the wins more. i stick to Boomerang now cos theyre licensed and you can actually check the RTP on each game. the sketchy unlicensed sites tho? yeah id be way more suspicious of those

yeah can confirm the demo thing. i used to think i was cursed too lol. once i started only playing on properly licensed sites and checking the rtp i realised it was just variance doing its thing. some sessions youre up some youre down, thats how it works

honestly idc what anyone says i had a site freeze the exact second i was about to trigger a bonus and then it never came back. lost 80 bucks. maybe not rigged but something dodgy goin on with the cheaper sites

that sounds more like a connection drop than rigging tbh. happened to me once and i contacted support and they actually credited the spin back. depends on the site but the legit ones log everything so the round still completes server side even if your screen freezes

fwiw the rng is independently tested by orgs like eCOGRA and iTech Labs on the regulated sites. theyre the ones who certify the rtp percentages are accurate. doesnt mean you win it just means the odds are what they say they are
61
to add to this, rtp is calculated over millions of spins. so a game with 96% rtp doesnt mean youll get 96 back every session, it could be 200% one night and 10% the next. people confuse the long term average with short term results all the time

been doing this since the pub pokies days. online ones arent really different in principle, the machine never owes you a win. each spin is independent so it doesnt remember you deposited money. our brains just look for patterns that arent there
29
wait so if every spin is independent how come i always seem to do better right after a big payout? is that real or am i imagining it
3
youre imagining it sorry. its called the gamblers fallacy. the game has zero memory of the last spin so the odds reset completely every time. you just remember the times it worked and forget the times it didnt
25
how do you even check the rtp on a game? ive never seen it listed anywhere lol
28
usually its in the game info menu, theres a little (i) icon or paytable section that lists it. some sites also have it on the game description page. if a site hides it completely thats a bit of a red flag imo
17
neutral take here but the bigger issue isnt rigging its just that the house always wins eventually by design. even a perfectly fair game with a 4% edge will drain you given enough time. the rng being legit doesnt make it a good way to make money
13
im not convinced these third party testing labs are actually unbiased tho. the casinos pay them right? whats stopping them just rubber stamping whatever
16
nah thats a fair worry but it doesnt really work like that. those labs stake their entire reputation on being independent, if they got caught fudging results theyd lose every client overnight and the regulators would pull licenses. theres way more money in being trustworthy than in helping one casino cheat

same boat as everyone here, switched to only playing licensed sites and the paranoia basically went away. didnt suddenly start winning more or anything lol but at least i know the games arent stitched up. just set a budget and treat it as entertainment not income
